What Is 21stcenturyskillsohio.org?

28 April 2011 2 Comments

“21stcenturyskillsohio.org” is Ohio’s response to the need for a “one-stop shop” resource focused on infusing 21st Century Skills into education. Aligned as a “leadership state” with the national Partnership for 21st Century Skills, Ohio has made a commitment to building world class skills and knowledge in our educational system. Educators, administrators, students, parents, business and civic leaders and policymakers are now collaborating to re-vamp historical school designs and traditional classroom learning environments, re-tool academic content standards and assessment tools, and importantly, give teachers the tools and training they need to be effective in a 21st Century Classroom.

This site will support a learning community devoted to 21st Century Skills – the contemporary catch phrase which describes the level of education and types of skills individuals will need to survive, and thrive, in the decades ahead. We’ll gather and post educational research, best practices, curriculum and instruction ideas, professional development programs, ideas for effective learning environments, assessment tools and strategies, technology solutions, and funding resources for schools and school districts to use in this movement towards educational excellence.

Be sure to visit the site regularly, and join us in our steadfast resolve to work together to integrate this vitally important educational philosophy into Ohio’s schools. When students win, we all win!

    Hi

You may be aware that the High AIMS Consortium in southwest Ohio is well on the way in developing a regional awareness regarding 21st century teaching and learning. We kicked off our initiative on October 20 with keynotes from Governor Jim Hunt and Deb Delisle. We awarded min-grants to district or groups of districts pursuing 21st century strategies. On April 29 we will hear back from those 16 mini-grants regarding their successes and challenges. Ken Kay and Deb Delisle will also be speaking on the 29th. At the October 20 event we had 400 in attendance; we anticipate the same on April 29. We are also working on plans for a Fall 2010 conference. It sounds as though the event you have planned parallels closely our plans for April 29. At some point after those two events we should compare notes and search for ways to collaborate beyond the mid-Ohio groups.

Thanks and best wishes on May 4.

Many changes must happen in how teachers teach at all grade levels. This may be done slow or fast all depending on how each school district wishes to address the problem.
